Information Marketing Is The New Commodity
Online businesses have a problem… their bank accounts are growing faster than 90% of people out there… Who’s at fault? Information marketing…
Yep, those little ads that seem to follow you everywhere you go and offer you exactly what you’re looking for…
Those ones…
The same ads that piss you off because they offer you what you want, in exchange for something… your name, email, phone, visa, and sometimes your ego…
Why do they need your information, if you are entitled to get whatever you want, whenever you want…
Why can’t they give you that Money-Getting Seminar course for free, instead of the shitty free report they cleverly named “Ultra Secret Money Making Online Tips” which only peaked your interest and recommended you buy the “Real Money Making Online Course”…
Well, there’s more than one reason… but what you’ve just gone through is called a sales funnel… It is one of the fundamentals of information marketing… so let me tell you what exactly information marketing is besides being a cash cow for many entrepreneurs, and I’m not talking exclusively online business owners.
When I was introduced to information marketing, I was trying to build a real estate business. I, being brand new to business, sucked at the most important role of a business owner… getting business…
I got my real estate license, went home and sat by my phone all day waiting for home buyers and sellers to call and beg I take time away from my exciting life just to help them… oh and because I’m smart, I would command a higher commission…
After a full day knick knacking around, disassembling the phone multiple times to make sure it worked, I came to the realization, that no one was calling me because of one simple reason… no one knew I was in business…
Ah… welcome to my life dear Mr. Marketing… Or is it Mrs. Marketing?… have you seen those 32 page long sales letters? that’s a lot of talking to be coming out of a man
…
Anyways…
Being a complete marketing moron I went out and saw what everyone else was doing… I saw about 300 different agents say “I’m #1… I sell more homes”… huh?
I thought only one person could be #1?
Or the cutesy slogans “Bob Jones 007 License To Sell Real Estate”…
(Chuckles…)
These people are making some money, but the really big agents that were really selling a lot of real estate and making 7 figure incomes were no where to be seen… how the heck did they get business?…
It literally is a secret place… at least it appears to be…
Well if you read the title to the blog post you may already have a clue, but if you don’t here’s the answer…
(Drum roll please)
Information marketing…
All information marketing is… is messing with people’s weaknesses to lead them into some sort of action… We all have weaknesses like fear, greed, curiosity, etc.
Just like me when I noticed 300 real estate agents claiming to be #1, I only saw a couple ads from people who offered compelling stuff like “your home sold in 21 days guaranteed, or I’ll buy it”…
Now if I’m a seller, I don’t care if you are number one… I care if you can sell my home fast and for top dollar…
If I’m a buyer, I don’t care if you are number one, I care if you can get me a good deal… and regardless of whether I’m a buyer or seller, I don’t want to pay a commission… I want free…
So my career in information marketing was when I started offering information in exchange for contact information…
Basically I would run ads that would say “Free Report: How to buy a home with no money down”… Now the reason I would ask for the contact’s information is because no one in their right mind would seek out information on how to buy a home with no money down unless they were thinking of buying real estate… and even fewer people would be willing to give out their contact information for such report…
so whenever someone left their contact information in exchange for a report, the person is a qualified lead…
See with information marketing, I don’t have to say I’m #1… because what does it mean to be number one? Does it mean I’ll sell your home in 21 days? does it mean I’ll get you the bank foreclosure at 60 cents on the dollar… why not offer the result?
The reason most people don’t offer the result is because they can’t fulfill on the promise, so they try to fool people instead…
That’s how you would get business for real estate and just like real estate, many industries are using information marketing to get business…
The weight loss industry “how to lose 6 pounds in 7 days while still eating those delicious McDonald’s fries…”
The finance industry “how to make $32,453 a day trading stocks”
The pooch industry “how to train your dog to stop biting”
Can you see how only people who are interested in weight loss would ask for the report on losing weight… and how the marketer knows that because they are interested in weight loss the prospect would very likely be interested in magic diet pills, diet books, and other weight loss related stuff?
How the person wanting to make money investing in stocks would also be interested in platform services with daily graphs, and daily stock picks and tips from professionals, trading accounts, etc.
How the dog trainer would also want to buy a training leash, kennel and various other products related to dog training… that’s information marketing and it’s value is worth more than money, hence the growing bank accounts of many information marketers… in essence the new commodity…
I’ll close with this… A guy walks into a hardware store looking for a drill… the sales person wants to sell his drill… Instead of telling the guy that his drill is #1, he tells him how to make a hole and why the drill needed to make such hole should be made of a specific material, specific design…
Then he proceeds to close the guy by telling him how the drill he’s got is the perfect one he is looking for even though it costs more than the others… why is he able to sell it? because the guy doesn’t want a drill, the guy wants to make a hole and the sales person used information marketing to tell the guy that only that drill can make the hole…
